Petitions available for two open Board of Education seats

Two Board of Education seats will be on the May 18 ballot alongside the school budget. Petitions are now available for those interested in running.

The open seats are currently held by Lisa Allendorph and Diane Giacone Stever. Allendorph has announced that she will not be seeking another term.

I would like to encourage anyone interest in running for the Board to pick up a petition," Board President Jim Dering said at the March 10 meeting. "Being on the school board is a rewarding experience and I would encourage anyone who is interested to run, or if you're not sure if you're interested to talk to one of the Board members and we'll talk to you about our experiences."

Interested candidates should pick up a petition from Michelle Curtis in the district's Business Office from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. The office is located at 90 Adams Place, Delmar.

Candidates are required to get 73 signatures to be placed on this year's ballot. Petitions are due by April 19, 2010.

Board members serve volunteer, three year terms. The Board members who are elected this May will begin their tenure in July.
