A Letter from BCMS Administrative Dean Andrew Baker
November 23, 2011
Dear Student and Parents,
Here at BCMS there are many ways we recognize
positive student behavior. Our school-wide character committee has
unveiled a new positive recognition program called the Pillars of
Character Pizza Lunch.
At the beginning of each month, we will highlight a certain Pillar of Character (caring, respect, responsibility, fairness, trustworthiness, and citizenship) on the morning announcements. We will discuss the character trait and why people who exhibit these traits make our school, community, and country a better place.
At the end of the month, we will ask each team to nominate up to four students who have demonstrated the particular character trait for that month. We will then hold a pizza party for not only them, but for one of their friends (because who you hang out with builds character as well).
The first Pillar of character we will be spotlighting is CARING, which is very appropriate for Thanksgiving and the upcoming holiday season. To be caring means to be kind and compassionate towards others; express gratitude; forgive others; and help people in need.
Many of us are very used to showing caring to our families or those close to us, but there are many ways we can demonstrate caring for others in our school community as well. We’ve asked the teachers to recognize students who have really shown caring and consideration for others during the month of November.
Thank you,
Andrew Baker
