Lab School
Welcome to the Lab School

The Bethlehem Central Lab School is a small, rigorous high school program carved out of the larger Bethlehem High School in which it is physically situated. Designed by members of the Bethlehem faculty, administration and community, the Lab School is committed to excellence through innovation and represents a bold educational thrust into the 21st century. Lab School students and faculty alike have been characterized as a community of risk-takers, pioneering active modes of learning that frequently involve students in independent research, formal presentations and interdisciplinary projects - all in a context of demanding coursework and Regents mandates.
Chartered in 1992 as a local response to calls from business, government and
educational institutions to experiment with new methods of teaching and
learning, the Lab School has been featured in the local press, as well as in
national professional journals.

Photo Gallery: Build A Business Project
Lab School Seniors were given a chance to develop a business plan from the ground up and promote their idea to a group of potential investors. The three components to the project included: drafting a business plan, creating a television advertisement to promote the business and finally selling their idea at the business fair. The potential investors were played by the 9th, 10th and 11th grade Lab School students and the teachers who decided which business they would invest in based on which business has the most chance of success.
Tremendous experience of Lab School students in Colonial Williamsburg
The Lab School students and faculty spent three days in Colonial Williamsburg at the end of March, 2011. This educational experience was well connected to the American History curriculum as students explored The United States' foundations and life during The Revolutionary War era. Baltimore, Jamestown, Yorktown, Richmond and Monticello were among some of the sites that were toured. Students witnessed the living conditions of people during these times as well as reenactments of some battles. In addition to having returned with real world experience to apply to the curricula, students were able to bond with their peers in a positive manner.

Update on the Lab School Lottery for 2011-2012:
The Lab School lottery for the 2011-12 freshmen class has been drawn and the first 30 names have been called. Those 30 students will have a few days to decide if they want to hold their spot for next year. If any students decline their spots we will move to our Wait List (there are 90 names on the Wait List). Any questions about the lottery can be directed to Lab School Coordinator Stephen Smith at smitshs@bcsd.neric.org.
