On Wednesday, April 17, the BCHS Counseling Center hosted the 2013 Career Fair Expo where students were able to learn about many careers including fields from law to the culinary arts, firefighting, technology, engineering, massage therapy and many more!

Empty Bowls Fundraiser to benefit Regional Food Bank
On Tuesday May 21, from 5-7 p.m., in the BCHS
cafeteria, Students for Peace and Survival (SPAS) will host the
Empty Bowls fundraiser to benefit the Regional Food Bank, local food
pantries and community gardens.
For $10, patrons will get a handmade bowl (until supplies run out)
and all the soup that they want. SPAS will also have bread
available, graciously donated by the Culinary Arts II classroom and
Bountiful Bread.
Many BCHS students have been involved in this fundraiser, including
Students for Peace and Survival, the Art Club, Ad Agency, Culinary
Arts II, and many faculty members who have donated their time and
effort to make this night a success.

Photos, prizes and volunteers still needed for Graduation Celebration
PHOTOS: The Senior Celebration Committee is asking parents to submit photos of their children for the Photo Wall that decorates the hallway during Senior Celebration. Pictures can be from any grade and casual and group shots are particularly fun. Send in as many as you want, but try to send in at least one. Please enlarge and print photos on 8 x 10 letter size paper (no photo paper). There will be a drop off box in the main office for Senior Wall Photos. All photos are needed by June 10.

Most people worry about the economic recovery, but five BCHS students recently developed and presented a monetary policy to make it happen. Bethlehem Students Compete in National History Bowl Tournament
Nine Bethlehem Central High School and Middle School students competed last weekend in the National History Bee and Bowl Championship in Washington, D.C., that featured 198 teams from all across the U.S. and as far away as Guam, London and Tokyo. READ MORE »
BCHS ‘Angels’ soar in Washington
Two BCHS students and members of the Challenger
Angels cheer squad, senior Jessica Klein and freshman Julia Huber,
had the opportunity to perform a routine at the President’s Council
on Fitness, Sports and Nutrition’s annual meeting recently. The
Angels, 14 special needs cheerleaders in a squad organized by
Colonie Pop Warner, headed to Washington on May 6 and performed for
the council at its annual meeting.

BCHS Senior competes at Syracuse University
Out of 100 seniors from around the country selected to compete, BCHS Senior Olivia Lupoli's policy "Seniors Helping Seniors" and her debate of its merits, placed fourth overall in Syracuse University's Maxwell School of Citizenship Scholarship Competition winning her $8,000 for college. Congratulations Olivia!
Four BCHS students win honorable mention in national essay contest
Four BCHS 9th grade students (Emily Bouton, Garrett Dribusch, Mallory Epstein, Julia Nugent) have been awarded with honorable mention for their outstanding essays, entered into the national DuPont Essay contest as part of a literacy assignment in Enriched Biology. They chose a topic of interest and created an exceptional essay that focused on a global challenge. Congratulations!
Mock Trial team Wins Albany County Tournament
Congratulations to the mock trial team for an
excellent showing in this year’s tournament. This was the first year
Bethlehem has participated in the mock trial tournament since 2001.
The team exceeded expectations when they won the Albany County
portion of the tournament and advanced to the regional round at the
Saratoga Springs City Center. In the regional round they lost in the
quarterfinal round by only one point. Throughout the tournament our
team was constantly praised for their professionalism, collegiality,
and ethics.
Members of the mock trial team include Connor Armbruster, James
Barriere, Jeremy Falk, Noah Falk, Jordan Gross, Satjiv Kanwar, Jack
LaVigne, Jack Maguire, Quinn Maguire, Jamie McCormik, Kevin Risch,
and Simone Roberts-Payne. A special thanks to Judge Ryan Donovan,
Judge Richard McGuire, Attorney Katelyn Primomo, and Attorney Paul
Jureller for their hard work preparing our students for this
tournament. We are fortunate to have the support of our community
professionals and are very appreciative.

Students in Mr. Mitchell's Lab School Spanish 4 class reach out via Skype to students studeying English in Mexico City. Mr. Mitchell's students were tasked with communicating solely in Spanish, while the students in Mexico City had to hone their English skills. READ MORE »

BC athletes honored by County Executive
during ‘Week of Champions’
Albany County Executive Daniel P. McCoy honored
the Bethlehem girls’ basketball team on Wednesday, March 27, for
their 20-1 season, and recognized Bethlehem junior Gunnar Zemering,
who became the second Bethlehem boys swimmer to win a state title.

BCHS senior wins Intel's Excellence in Computer Science award
On Saturday March 23, BCHS senior Andrew Wilkinson received the Intel Excellence in Computer Science Award at the annual Intel Greater Capital Region Science and Engineering Fair held at RPI. In order to participate in this event students must complete authentic research on their own in the field of science or engineering. READ MORE »
Class scheduling for 2013-14 has begun
The scheduling process for the 2013-2014 school year has begun. High School Administration and Subject Supervisors have taken the course requests of the students and started to develop a staffing plan that will best meet their needs. Once the budget process is complete, next year's schedule can be finalized and BCHS students should have a good sense of what their schedules will look like.

BC History Bowl teams take top spots in regional tournament
The BC Varsity History Bowl team took both first and
second places (with teams of just three) in the Upper Hudson Regional
Tournament earlier this month.
BC Talon launches new website
The BC Talon has a new online nest, going
digital-only in 2013. The student-run news publication will no
longer print newspapers but will continue to provide the
hard-hitting and well-written school news coverage BC residents have
come to expect.
Bethlehem’s Science Olympiad team has won the right to compete at the New York State Science Olympiad
On Saturday, Feb. 16, the Capital Region Science
Olympiad was held at St. Rose College in Albany. Bethlehem’s team won 13
medals and won the right to compete at the New York State Olympiad on March
8 and 9 in Central Valley New York.
