The Spring Book Fair is just around the corner
Save the dates, March 17-20, for our Spring Book Fair! We are happy to have a new feature to the event this Spring: CREATE YOUR OWN BOOK. We are looking forward to showing off the talent of our Eagle students with our very own showcase of handmade books. See this attached flyer for details [PDF]. All book sizes, genres and creative submissions will be accepted as long as they are original works; one entry per student please. Deadline for book entry is 9 a.m. on Monday, March 17.

Cale, a psychologist and parenting expert, will host a morning session at Hamagrael Elementary on Monday, March 10 at 9:30 a.m. to discuss strategies families can use at home to keep students on track for success. Summer Camp Fair on March 18
The Slingerlands Elementary School Community will be hosting their 8th annual Summer Camp Fair on Tuesday, March 18 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. The Summer Camp Fair is open to all students and is a perfect opportunity for parents to meet staff and learn about almost 20 different Capital District camps. Please save the date!
As one parent stated last year, “I knew there were lots of summer camps and activities, I just didn’t know how to find them. And here they are all in one place.” There will be giveaways and raffles from some of the participating camps. You’ll have opportunity to win t-shirts, bags, water bottles and most importantly free weeks or discounted camp weeks. The raffle is no charge to parents. All attending receive free tickets.
Eagle Celebrates Read Across America in March!
The entire school will be participating in a fun reading challenge this month. We will be kicking off our Read Across America program on Monday, March 3. All students should wear a CRAZY HAT to school that day. Students who read the most each week will be eligible to win a prize. Reading logs will be handed out in school or you can download the log from our web site each week. Click here for details and reading log #1 [PDF]. At the end of the month one of the classes with the highest total of minutes read will win a pizza party sponsored by the PTO.
Recap of Common Core In The Classroom
To help parents better understand what our curriculum looks like to students in the classroom under the state’s new Common Core Learning Standards, on Feb. 10, teachers at the elementary, middle and high school level described new aspects of the curriculum, such as writing and close reading in ELA to algorithms and fractions in Math. Recycle your sneakers for Hope 7
We are once again supporting Hope 7 Community Center by collecting sneakers for impoverished countries. Eagle has been able to contribute over 200 sneakers in past years towards the goal of 1,000 sneakers as a district. Our PE teachers will have a box outside of the gym for dontaions. Come read and relax at Eagle's CAPER
CAPER is a wonderful family event for children and parents to enjoy together relaxing and listening to our very own Eagle student readers. Bring a blanket, sleeping bag or pillow pet to snuggle up on. This is an ongoing program occurring the 2nd Weds. of each month: March 12 and April 9 at 6:30 p.m.
Eagle's Feather Winners
We are so proud of our Eagle students who are “out and about learning and making a difference” every day. Feathers are given to those students who are noticed making an outstanding contribution to Eagle’s community. On Monday mornings we announce the students who have received a feather. The feathers are put on the bulletin board in the front hall and their names will be posted on our web page. SEE FEATHER WINNERS »
